Our Team

Willie Pole

Executive Director

Founder/CEO

Born and raised mostly on the South Side of Chicago, my parents divorced when I was young. Moving to the suburbs, I was academically behind and immediately targeted as a problem. Without proper coping and communication skills, I began to live up to society’s low expectations of me. I had no outlet for my frustrations or ways to express my needs. Without emotional or academic support, I was well on my way to becoming a statistic. Returning to the south side as a teen, I was naïve, misguided, misdirected and fell in with the wrong crowd. Poor decisions on my part led me to suffer the negative consequences of my actions.

With faith,  the support of my family, and a strong network of friends/mentors, I turned things around. I obtained my GED, then my Associate’s degree, became a Certified Paralegal, a Certified Associate Addiction Specialist, entrepreneur, and a host of accolades. I learned to research, study hard, and believe in myself. Once an off course youth, I am now a man with purpose.

After life’s detours, I made it my mission to reach out to at-risk youth- like I once was. The main goal of F.O.C.U.O.S. is to prevent youth from falling through the cracks like I did. Our program offers the guidance and direction that many youth so desperately need. We teach life skills, offer exposure to new experiences, provide hope and support,  and prepare our youth to be productive citizens in society.

To the at-risk and underserved youth struggling to cope,  I want them to know “you are not a stereotype, now you are the prototype!

She believes that a strong educational foundation - academic and social emotional- combined with life skills can lead to more successful children. Shannon Baker

Director

Shannon Baker has lived in Bolingbrook since 1979. As a fourth grader her parents divorced and she was back and forth between mom and dads house before finally becoming stable and being raised by her father. Shannon ended up in the same house she was raised in as a little girl and still lives there now.

Later as a teen, she looked for attention in all the wrong ways and became a runaway. At the age of 17, she started to grow up and was hired at the local grocery store (Many Bolingbrook residents recognize her from that store). By the age of 20 she decided to go to college. Shannon graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a concentration in Accounting.

Shannon has three children who participate and LOVE FOCUOS. She has always done small volunteer projects at the companies she’s worked for and been an inspiration to many young girls in the neighborhood.

Shannon is a “Jack of many trades” at FOCUOS as she keeps track of much of Focuos’ data in Excel, as well as helps to plan events, and stays involved with the FOCUOS kids during events.

In Loving Memory of

Damon Neal
