Who We Are

FOCUOS is a 501 c(3) non-profit community organization based in Will County Dupage Township, whose mission is to empower underserved,  and at-risk individuals from the local community to realize their natural skills, traits, and potential, in efforts to be productive citizens in society. Focuos was formed by means of addressing the lack of positive mentorship and programming for a diverse population, with a concentration on targeting adolescents, youth, and young adults.


Our programs are designed to provide alternative social outlets for youth and young adults by offering a slate of workshops, trainings, group discussion settings, and group outings for our target audience to participate in. We have launched these initiatives utilizing the strength of a committed and passionate volunteer membership base of residents, community advocates, faith leaders, parents, and small business owners.

    Button

F.O.C.U.O.S. on the Horizon: This program is designed specifically for under served at risk teens between the ages of 9-15 years old. This mentoring program comprises two key components, a weekly round-table and group outings. The Round-table discussions allow participants to have a conduit to express themselves and articulate challenges that youth and young adults face today, including bullying, peer pressure, conflict resolution, relationships, and family dynamics. The group outings are thoughtful program activities to help them gain new knowledge, skills, and abilities; build confidence; and discover who they are. We utilize both activities as relationship building tools, as it creates opportunities to facilitate relationships with and among youth, creating a space for them to make new friends and develop strong relationships with the staff and volunteers. All outings are comprised of life skills theme programs, conversations (topic given by participants) , and meals (exposure to various food/restaurants, they are not normally accustomed too).

F.O.C.U.O.S on the Future: This program is designed for at-risk young adults between the ages of 16-24. The program has a variety of workshops that walks the participants through life skills development including communication and interpersonal skills; decision-making and problem-solving; creative thinking and critical
thinking; self-awareness and empathy, which are two key parts of emotional intelligence; and self-control.


Additionally, we included an entrepreneurial component to this. We show them the basics of starting a business, and we assist each participant with forming their own LLC and opening a business bank account.

F.O.C.U.O.S on the Prize

F.O.C.U.O.S on the Prize: This program is designed for at-risk young adults that need court ordered community service compliance. Our program works in unison with the local schools and court system to help juveniles avoid convictions, regain focus, building self confidence, respect for self, home, and the community in which they live.


We teach and counsel our students about the judicial system, the law and its consequences, social & life skills  training, peer education, conflict resolution, and anger management. Our program is a one of a kind, unique intervention program assisting youth 12-18 years of age in Will County who need court ordered community service compliance.

F.O.C.U.O.S on the Outlook


F.O.C.U.O.S on the Outlook:  This is a re-entry program that redeploy individuals returning to the community from the correctional system. This two-fold program help residents in basic skills and leadership development. Our outreach staff work directly with hard-to-employ clients assisting them with interview and job readiness, group mentoring and peer-to-peer sessions. Each of the active clients are provided with direct services such as case management, job placement, educational assessments, advocacy, informal counseling, and cultural and recreational activities.

F.O.C.U.O.S on Success Academy:  A program called Focus on Success Academy was developed to help pupils in all academic areas. The secret to pupils' academic success is giving them the confidence they need. As tutors, we give students the on-demand assistance they require to achieve great academic performance. By receiving higher grades, the pupils in attendance have demonstrated their diligence. With practice, dedication, and hard effort, progress is evident, and confidence levels have greatly risen.
